– HAPA pharm commissions Movianto: location in Kist to become import hub and distribution centre for cannabis products
– Logistics specialist organises Germany-wide distribution and takes over fulfilment up to invoicing
– Narcotics handling: high demands on safety and 100 per cent transparent documentation
(Neunkirchen) The Dortmund-based company HAPA pharm, which develops, manufactures and distributes medical cannabis products, has commissioned Movianto, a service provider specialising in logistics for the healthcare industry, with storage, distribution and fulfilment tasks in Germany. “The storage and handling of such products is a future market with high demands and strongly increasing demand, for which we have specifically prepared ourselves,” says Dennis Spamer, Managing Director of Movianto Germany. “As a logistics provider for healthcare products, we can ideally contribute our know-how and our special storage options here.” According to a report by the ARD magazine Plusminus, the demand for cannabis for medical use has increased rapidly in recent years. In 2020, for example, 9.4 tonnes were imported into Germany, almost 20 times as much as in 2017.
Because cannabis belongs to the opiates, the special conditions of the Narcotics Act regarding safety and documentation apply to these products. “Narcotics are kept in a completely separate area in the warehouse,” says Spamer. “Thick safe doors seal off the narcotics warehouse, the access points to the area are specially secured and directly connected to the police. The logistics service provider must be able to provide information at any time about where and how much of which substance is and what was delivered to whom and when.”
In addition, cannabis products are stored and transported at temperatures between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. “We can offer all this at our location in Würzburg-Kist, which serves as an import hub and distribution centre for HAPA pharm.” In the process, Movianto employees report the receipt of the goods to the Federal Opium Agency, and draw a sample from each batch when it is stored, which is then examined by an external laboratory. Once the batches have been released, Movianto can start picking the goods on an order-by-order basis and organise transport to pharmacies or wholesalers. The authority also receives a semi-annual report on the stocks, which Movianto checks daily. This semi-annual report includes all movements of narcotics. “In addition, HAPA pharm also uses our “Order to Cash” service,” says Spamer. Here Movianto takes over the entire order processing up to the invoice to the end customer recipient.
