Movianto Netherlands is expanding their healthcare logistics facility in Oss

“Oss2” will double the Netherlands’ capacities

Located on the same plot of land as the current facility, the extension, unofficially named “Oss2” will double the capacities of the facility’s current operation, helping Movianto Netherlands adapt to the ever-evolving market.

The project is built on a solid foundation: the original Oss facility offers, among other services, strategic market access, specific distribution expertise on biotech, diagnostics, and other healthcare-related products, and manufacturing capabilities, all serving the current needs of Movianto’s Dutch and international clients.

The extension will expand the different temperature ranges, including deep freeze capacities, as more and more products require this kind of storage. Additionally, and importantly, a bunker is being built for dangerous goods to comply with new Dutch regulation on those products. Finally, the facility will be equipped with cutting edge automation and technology.

“We are incredibly proud of the progress of the expansion. Thanks to significant positive commercial developments, the decision was made to increase the storage capacity within the building by using narrow aisles. This will allow us to better accommodate the growth of our existing clients. To this end, we have extended the completion date to the 2nd quarter of 2023. The roof is now closed and we can see that the outer walls are also almost completely up. In a short while we can really start working inside!” said Patrick Verkuijlen, Managing Director Movianto Benelux.

Focus on Sustainability

From the start, the extension of Oss has aimed to be the most environmentally friendly project that Movianto has conceived of to date. Thanks to the landlord, construction partners, and the ingenuity of the development team, every detail of the project has been examined for its environmental impact. At every stage of the process, the team asked, “How can we make this more sustainable?”

“At Movianto, we believe there is no such thing as too small of a gesture for the planet. This extension is an opportunity for us to try as many new initiatives as we can, determine best practices, and then incorporate them into our Coninuous Improvement program to be later disseminated group-wide,” said Patrick Verkuijlen, Managing Director of Movianto Benelux.

Here are just some examples of Oss2’s sustainability features:

  • The site is easy to reach by bike and public transportation in order to reduce CO2 emissions from teammates.
  • During the build, all waste was separated and recycled as much as possible.
  • Special attention has been paid to complete insulation of the building, so climate systems will be energy efficient.
  • All lights will be LED and motion/daylight activated.
  • The roof will have a solar farm on it.
  • No fossil fuels will be used in the building, only for the backup power generator. This will run on green diesel.
  • To reduce use of power / CO2 emissions, a power quality and monitoring system will be installed.
  • Materials are easy to clean, in order to reduce the need for using cleaning agents.
  • All cleaning agents and pest control will be environmental friendly.
  • The site will have power sockets to encourage electrical vehicle use.

A State of the Art Sustainable Cold Unit

The keystone to the new Oss site is the cold production of Movianto’s warehouses. This temperature-controlled environment is essential for the distribution of healthcare products and is very energy intensive. Movianto turned to their partner Voets & Donkers and they offered a sustainable solution.

  • The climate installations will only use inert gasses as refrigerant. The installation is a state-of-the-art CO2 based installation.
  • It will be placed inside the building in order to reduce noise pollution for the surrounding area.
  • Thermal residue of cool and freeze area will be used to cool and heat the offices, loading and ambient area by using a thermal storage vessel.
