(Bedford/UK) Since the end of April 100 new trucks and vans are increasing the efficiency of the dual temp fleet of Movianto UK. “The investment in new vehicles, all designed for transporting healthcare products in two temperature ranges, is part of our continuous improvement program”, says David Evans. “They are boosting fuel efficiency at 20 percent.” Safety was another important factor when investing in the new vehicles, as explained by the Managing Director of Movianto UK: “Because of increased all-around visibility through camera and mirror systems, our drivers don’t have any blind spots around their trucks. This should lead to a further decrease in the number of accidents on the road or in parking.”
The Direct Vision Standard (DVS) and safety permit for heavy goods vehicles require all lorries over 12 tonnes gross vehicle weight to be granted a permit to enter or operate in Greater London. “The 100 percent all-around visibility in the new trucks means they are DVS 4-star rated, giving our new vehicles unrestricted entry into London.”
Movianto UK is operating a fleet of specialist vans, trucks, and trailers validated for the transportation of pharmaceutical and healthcare products. All vehicles are equipped for transport with active temperature control in two possible temperature ranges. “Mostly we are using dual temperature equipment for a combination of 2 to 8 and 15 to 25 degrees Celsius”, says Evans. “But for certain products, we also use the trucks for frozen transport at minus 20 degrees.”
The new vans are all equipped with an innovative air curtain system. “An air curtain is a fan-powered device that creates an invisible air barrier over the door to separate efficiently two different environments”, explains Evans. “The new air curtain technology in our vans improves temperature control and reduces fridge usage, cutting energy consumption and making drivers’ jobs easier and safer, because additional plastic curtains behind the doors are no longer necessary.”
The 19 new trucks with 18-tonne gross weight are equipped with foldaway tail lifts and safety guards to improve loading and unloading safety. As the trucks are produced by Mercedes-Benz and DAF, the vans solely come from the German manufacturer.
