New location doubles storage space for refrigerated medicines in Germany
– Lease agreement signed for new warehouse which enables logistics for frozen goods, too
– Hall already completed – interior work to start in October – commissioning planned for February 2026
– Gold standard for sustainability: facility certified according to DGNB – photovoltaic system on the roof produces more electricity than the site consumes
(Neunkirchen) Movianto is to open a third site in Germany. “This will double our cold storage capacity and enable us to offer logistics for frozen goods in Germany for the first time,” says Dennis Spamer, Managing Director of Movianto for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. “A long-term lease has been signed and the building is already in place. We can start interior work in October and plan to start operations in the facility in February 2026.”
The new location is part of the municipality of Wiesloch in Baden-Württemberg. It is located near the Waldorf-Wiesloch motorway junction, where the two important motorways A5 and A6 intersect. Movianto is leasing 30,000 square metres of warehouse space and 1,500 square metres of office space in the industrial park near the headquarters of the software company SAP. The entire warehouse is temperature-controlled and divided into different temperature zones. “Initially, we will have space for 30,000 pallet spaces in the ambient area, i.e. at 15 to 25 degrees, around 10,000 spaces in the refrigerated area at 2 to 8 degrees and 1,200 in the deep-freeze area at minus 20 degrees,” explains Spamer. “If required, we also offer deep-freeze storage at minus 40 degrees and ultra-low temperature storage at up to minus 80 degrees.” Movianto plans to operate in two shifts and employ up to 180 people. “Because the facility is barrier-free, we can also employ people who are wheelchair users, for example.”
In line with Movianto’s specialisation in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry, numerous special features and certifications are planned for the logistics property. In order to comply with the EU’s Good Distribution Practice (GDP) requirements for medicinal products, all processes from goods receipt, storage and retrieval, order picking and dispatch will be GDP-certified. As soon as Movianto also takes on manufacturing tasks at the site, a corresponding GMP (= Good Manufacturing Practice) licence is also planned. In order to ensure the highest possible safety standards, Movianto is aiming for TAPA C certification for the site. The Transport Asset Protection Association (TAPA), founded by shippers, is a global association dedicated to the protection of sensitive goods. It has defined the highest safety standards and checks compliance with them through special certifications.
Last but not least, the facility is designed to meet the highest sustainability standards. It is therefore certified according to the recognised DGNB real estate standard and awarded the Gold distinction. The building will have a photovoltaic system on the roof that can produce around 3,100 megawatts of electricity per year. This is more than Movianto’s projected electricity consumption at the site itself. The surplus will be fed into the public grid and will also contribute to further improving Movianto’s carbon footprint.
