Movianto UK launches pharmaceutical logistics partnership with NHS

Movianto UK launch pharmaceutical logistics partnership to strengthen nationwide vaccine and immunisation supply chain

  • Movianto UK, specialist for pharmaceutical and healthcare logistics and part of Yusen Logistics Healthcare, has been awarded a five-year contract by NHS England
  • End-to-end service includes storage, management and distribution of vaccines to more than 11,000 healthcare locations across England
  • Partnership makes use of Movianto UK’s existing logistics network instead of using new dedicated logistics capabilities, supporting NHS England’s sustainable procurement ambitions through more efficient use of logistics infrastructure and reduced transport activity

12 August 2026, Bedford — Movianto UK today announced the go-live of its new national contract with National Health Service (NHS) England for the delivery of specialised pharmaceutical logistics and warehouse services supporting England’s national vaccination and immunisation programmes. The five-year contract is the result of a tender process. It establishes Movianto UK as NHS England’s strategic logistics partner responsible for the end-to-end supply chain solution supporting vaccine storage, inventory management, order fulfilment, sortation and GDP-compliant temperature-controlled distribution to more than 11,000 frontline healthcare locations across England.

“The partnership brings together one of Europe’s most advanced healthcare logistics networks with NHS England’s national vaccination programmes, creating a more resilient, agile and efficient supply chain capable of supporting routine immunisation, national screening programmes and emergency public health responses”, says Andy Robinson, Deputy Managing Director, Movianto UK.

Multi-user logistics model creates synergies

Rather than relying on dedicated warehousing and transport infrastructure solely for NHS England, the solution harnesses Movianto UK’s existing healthcare storage and logistics network, already supporting leading global pharmaceutical manufacturers, NHS organisations and UK Government departments. Again, Andy Robinson: “This shared-user operating model maximises utilisation of existing infrastructure, reduces duplication of resources and delivers improved value through greater operational efficiency.”

It also enables suppliers to move products directly into Movianto’s existing regulated storage network, significantly reducing unnecessary physical stock transfers between facilities before distribution to NHS providers. This streamlined approach improves responsiveness, reduces handling, minimises transport movements and supports wider Government and NHS sustainability ambitions, which seek to reduce carbon emissions across NHS procurement while delivering greater social value.

Experience in supporting national healthcare resilience

The new contract builds upon Movianto UK’s established experience supporting national healthcare resilience, including pandemic preparedness, emergency response capability and time-critical deployment of medicines and vaccines across the United Kingdom.

This year in July, a key demonstration of this capability came during the emergency mobilisation of the national Meningococcal Group B (MenB) vaccination programme for young people. Working at pace alongside NHS England and national stakeholders, Movianto UK rapidly mobilised additional operational capacity to ensure vaccines reached community pharmacies and other vaccination providers on time and in full, supporting the accelerated public health response following the widely reported meningococcal disease cases affecting university students in Kent. As of now, over 16,000 orders have been processed and delivered.

Operating model that benefits patients and the NHS alike

“The successful mobilisation demonstrated the resilience, flexibility and responsiveness of the new national logistics model and highlighted the importance of an established pharmaceutical supply chain capable of responding rapidly to emerging public health priorities”. Andy Robinson adds: “We are proud to partner with NHS England in delivering one of the UK’s most strategically important healthcare supply chains. This contract recognises the value of harnessing existing pharmaceutical infrastructure to create a smarter, more efficient operating model that benefits patients and the NHS alike. Our shared-user approach combines GDP-compliant warehousing, advanced inventory management and nationwide temperature-controlled distribution to provide a resilient platform capable of supporting routine healthcare delivery while remaining ready to respond rapidly during national emergencies.”

Neil Gibbens, Deputy Director of Performance and Delivery Improvement, NHS England, comments:

“The contract represents another significant milestone in NHS England’s commitment to modernising national healthcare logistics through strategic partnerships that combine operational excellence, innovation, sustainability and value for money while strengthening resilience across the UK’s healthcare supply chain. The successful mobilisation of the MenB vaccination programme demonstrated exactly why resilient national logistics capability is so important in responding rapidly to changing public health needs.”
