Who is Occlutech?

Movianto spoke to Mike Galloway, VP Europe Cluster North, and Ylva Hagland, Global Logistics Director, about their challenges and experience workign together with movianto Uk to find the right logistics solutions for them.

Occlutech's Challenges

Occlutech, as a producer of medical devices, has distinct requirements and product use cases. Customers purchase Occlutech’s products to perform surgeries, but since each patient is unique, the specific items needed in a surgical kit can vary based on the patient’s condition.

“We were really looking for someone that understood what we did and how we work. We needed someone who could keep up with us. It was when we came down to meet with the Movianto UK team who showed us the Med Tech Facility and the tools being developed to support medical device manufacturers, we knew it would be a good move.”

“A critical requirement we had was the ability to self-manage our inventory: instantaneously see what we have, where it is and then make new orders. Our products are expensive and so we can’t have them go out of date. Often kits are returned with unused items still in them, so replenishments look different every time. All these factors can make it complex at times.”

“Another big requirement is traceability. It is vital to us for service and legal reasons. We work with very important products and so if any auditor comes to make sure we can do our job properly, and asks us where products are, we need to be able to show them. Otherwise, we could lose our certificate to sell.”

“Accidentally sending out kits with the wrong items or missing items, losing parcels at the delivery location, and having an unreliable delivery partner who cannot tell us for sure when a parcel will be delivered, was not the service we wanted to provide for our customers. We needed someone reliable.”

Movianto is a healthcare logistics specialist. We know how important it is for medical device manufacturers to provide evidence of all their processes and performance, and to have full traceability for the movement of all their products.

The new software not only allows you to track expiration dates, availability and products that are out for delivery but it can also be used to create branded documents and reports that show you the data.

Granular Inventory Management

Speaking to Occlutech about their pain points we concluded that specialist software was needed as there were some custom functionalities required outside of standard warehouse management systems. The software was developed in-house to provide Occlutech with GS1 barcode scanning, mixed media kit building, reconciliation of used stock, and branded document generation for each inbound and outbound transaction.

The barcode scanning allows Movianto to capture various types of barcodes across all of Occlutech’s different items and these serial numbers are all stored and transferred back to Occlutech. This way each individual item can be tracked giving Occlutech a granular view of their inventory.

Creating mixed media kits in the software ensures that the journey of each kit is recorded, along with a detailed list of items consumed during surgery. This facilitates more efficient inventory management and simplifies the replenishment process.

When Occlutech joined us, we immediately began planning phased improvements to further expand our services. Currently, we are piloting a new product tracking method in collaboration with Occlutech, which we believe will significantly benefit our customers upon its full release.
